On Waterloo Day the Museum Curator attended an event to unveil a blue plaque to Ensign Charles Ewart.

To mark the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, the Curator for The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Museum attended an event organised by Trafford Local Studies. This was to unveil a blue plaque to Ensign Charles Ewart at the site where he had made his home after retiring from the Army. The Curator had the privilege of being asked to speak and highlighted Ewart's continued significance to the Regiment. His achievements are present in the Castle from the Eagle in the SCOTS DG Museum to his painting in the Great Hall and his burial on the Esplanade. Owen Davis, a descendent of Charles Ewart, also spoke of the battle and Ewart's actions in capturing the eagle and standard of the French 45th Infantry Regiment of the Line. Together they unveiled the plaque.

Ewart's old house may be long gone but the plaque on the new building serves as a reminder of his incredible feat at the Battle of Waterloo. The memory of his achievements continues to stretch beyond the Regiment.
