ABYSSINIA

Following the taking of European hostages by Emperor Theodore III, the British sent a military force to Abyssinia to free them. The 3rd Dragoon Guards landed at Zula in March 1868. The regiment marched 400 miles over mountainous terrain to participate in the final assault on Theodore's fortress at Magdala.
